Some victories mean more than the final score.
For The St. James Performance Academy, Saturday's matchup against St. Frances Academy represented an opportunity to change the narrative surrounding its football program. A year removed from a 35–0 shutout against the Baltimore powerhouse, the Strivers entered the rematch with something to prove.
On October 10, 2026, they delivered.
Trailing 17–7 at halftime, St. James mounted a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat St. Frances Academy 28–20 in Manassas, Virginia. What began as another difficult afternoon against an established national program became one of the defining victories in the Strivers' recent history.
Quarterback Kash Carter helped lead the turnaround, delivering three second-half touchdown passes. Vinnie Hill caught two, while Camden Simmons added another, helping St. James seize control of a game that appeared to be slipping away.
The victory was particularly meaningful given the Strivers' recent performances against elite competition.
Just one week earlier, St. James had challenged IMG Academy before falling 44–42. That narrow defeat demonstrated the team's ability to compete with nationally recognized opponents, but it also left the program searching for the kind of signature victory that could validate its progress.
Against St. Frances, the Strivers found it.
The result represented more than revenge for the previous season's shutout. It demonstrated resilience, offensive execution, and the ability to respond under pressure against a highly regarded opponent.
For St. Frances Academy, the defeat was a reminder that even established programs face serious challenges when competing against emerging opponents determined to make their own mark.
For St. James, the victory was another step toward establishing itself among the programs shaping the national high school football conversation.
And for high school football fans across the DMV, it provided another example of why the region continues to produce some of the country's most compelling athletic competition.
