Game #5
St. Albans Pulls Away From Paul VI, 29-7, Behind Brett Paukstis' Rushing Performance
Bulldogs quarterback rushes for 146 yards and two touchdowns as Panthers fall to 1-4.
CHANTILLY, Va. — Friday, October 2, 2026 — Paul VI remained within one point of St. Albans after the opening quarter Friday night, but the Panthers were unable to generate another score as the visiting Bulldogs pulled away for a 29-7 nonconference victory.
St. Albans quarterback Brett Paukstis led the Bulldogs with 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries.
Paukstis also completed five of eight passes for 55 yards, although he threw one interception.
The Bulldogs opened the game with eight points, while Paul VI answered with seven to remain within striking distance.
But St. Albans controlled the remainder of the contest.
The Bulldogs scored seven points in each of the final three quarters while holding Paul VI scoreless after the opening period.
Paul VI quarterback Hudson Akin completed eight of 18 passes for 87 yards and one interception.
Receiver No. 81 caught four passes for 43 yards, while Roman Whitwood rushed for 39 yards on nine carries.
The Panthers struggled to establish a consistent offensive rhythm against a St. Albans defense that prevented them from reaching the end zone over the final three quarters.
For Paul VI, the loss represented another difficult performance following its 41-point victory over Saint John Paul the Great on September 18.
Since that win, the Panthers have scored only 14 combined points in losses to Digital Pioneers Academy and St. Albans.
St. Albans improved to 4-1 with the victory, while Paul VI dropped to 1-4.
The Panthers will next host St. Mary's Ryken of Leonardtown, Maryland, on October 9.
DMV Gridiron Takeaway: Paul VI remained competitive early but struggled to sustain offensive drives after the first quarter. Containing opposing rushing attacks and improving passing efficiency remain important challenges for the Panthers.
