Dunbar Opens DCIAA Conference Play With Commanding 40-16 Victory Over Bell
Crimson Tide score season-high 40 points to defeat Griffins and improve to 2-3.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dunbar opened its DCIAA Stars Division schedule with an impressive offensive performance Thursday, October 1, defeating Bell 40-16 to secure its second victory of the 2026 football season.
After a challenging nonconference schedule that included matchups against opponents from four states, the Crimson Tide returned to District competition looking to establish momentum.
Dunbar responded with its highest-scoring performance of the season to that point, producing 40 points against the Griffins and securing a 24-point victory.
The result improved Dunbar to 2-3 and provided a strong beginning to its conference schedule.
Bell entered the matchup searching for its first victory but was unable to contain the Crimson Tide's offense.
The Griffins fell to 0-5 following the defeat.
For Dunbar, the victory marked a significant offensive improvement after a nonconference stretch that included two close contests, a lopsided defeat and a forfeit loss.
The Crimson Tide had previously scored 28 points against John Champe and Hoboken, but their 40-point performance against Bell established a new season high.
With DCIAA competition underway, the victory gave Dunbar an opportunity to build momentum as the conference race developed.
The Crimson Tide will next face Woodson on October 8, seeking consecutive victories for the first time this season.
DMV Gridiron Takeaway: Dunbar's 40-point performance against Bell demonstrated the Crimson Tide's offensive potential in conference play. The victory provides an opportunity to turn a difficult early-season start into a competitive DCIAA campaign.
Final Score: Dunbar 40, Bell 16
