Game #4 Old Mill Starts Strong but Falls to Southern in Four Sets Mikayla Billingsley records 10 kills as the Patriots su`er their second consecutive defeat. DMV Volley | September 29, 2026 HARWOOD, Md. — Old Mill had the start it wanted against Southern on Tuesday. The Patriots could not sustain it.
After winning the opening set 25-20, Old Mill dropped the next three, falling to the Bulldogs, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16. Mikayla Billingsley led Old Mill with 10 kills, while Olivia Ballard contributed nine kills and a .261 hitting percentage. Maia Brown added three kills and six total blocks, according to the match statistics. The Patriots finished with 26 kills, 26 assists, 10 aces and 28 digs. Old Mill appeared positioned to end its losing streak after taking the first set. Southern responded by winning a competitive second set, 25-21, and gradually widened the margin over the final two. The Patriots scored 18 points in the third set and 16 in the fourth as the Bulldogs completed the comeback. For Old Mill, the loss marked a second consecutive setback following its 2-0 start. The performance also o`ered a contrast with the Patriots' early victories. Against Parkdale and Northeast, Old Mill generated enough o`ense to dictate portions of the match. Against Glen Burnie and Southern, sustaining that production proved more di`icult. The Patriots would have little time to dwell on the result, with a road matchup against Chesapeake Science Point scheduled for October 1. DMV Volley Takeaway: Billingsley's 10-kill performance was encouraging, but Old Mill needed more consistent production across four sets. The Patriots' ability to protect early advantages remained a concern.
