Roman Catholic Holds DeMatha Scoreless After First Quarter, Hands Stags First Loss
DeMatha's unbeaten start ends in 14-7 home defeat against Philadelphia opponent.
HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Friday, September 11, 2026 — DeMatha's unbeaten start came to an end Friday night as Roman Catholic rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Stags, 14-7, in a defensive nonconference contest.
DeMatha entered the matchup at 2-0 after defeating Archbishop Spalding and rallying past Imhotep Charter.
The Stags struck first against Roman Catholic, scoring seven points in the opening quarter.
But the visitors answered with a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the game at halftime.
Roman Catholic added another touchdown in the third period and protected its seven-point advantage throughout the fourth.
DeMatha was held scoreless over the final three quarters, a sharp contrast to its previous game, when it scored 14 fourth-quarter points to defeat Imhotep Charter.
The seven-point output was the Stags' lowest of the season through three games.
Roman Catholic improved to 1-2, while DeMatha dropped to 2-1.
The result presented the Stags with their first significant setback of the season and underscored the importance of offensive consistency against competitive nonconference opponents.
DeMatha will look to regroup when it hosts Loudoun Sports Academy of Leesburg, Virginia, on September 18.
DMV Gridiron Takeaway: DeMatha's defense kept the game within reach, but the offense could not build on its early touchdown. The loss exposed a need for more consistent scoring production as the Stags continued preparing for conference competition.
Final Score: Roman Catholic 14, DeMatha 7
